Legend has it that, in 1859, James Rowney, a pirate lost in the middle of the Caribbean, dreamed up a recipe to create rum. Upon sampling the sugar cane-based liqueur, he declared it a “noble liqueur fit for the Gods!” Later his descendant, John D Taylor, started to sell the rum.
